Foot Focused Hatha Practice
37m
Your body does NOT like concentrated stress. Your feet distribute stress. They cannot do that if they are not functioning correctly. We already know that everything is connected. We know that there are connective tissue lines throughout your body that go all the way from your feet to your tongue and what is happening in one area of the train will affect the rest of it.
The Pelvic Floor and the Feet rely on each other for support. A Yin/Yang relationship if you will! If your feet are weak and unstable it is going to create instability in the pelvis, hips and low back. If your pelvic floor is weak, it will affect the ability of your feet to efficiently absorb shock/stress which is one of their biggest jobs.
As we age, our arches weaken and then imbalance in the leg and back muscles is inevitable and the distribution of forces during movement is compromised. This means loss of balance, postural compromise, and likely pelvic floor dysfunction.
All that said, we spend a lot of time in today's class exploring the feet. We hit up all the things: mobilizing, strengthening and stretching the musculature and fascia. We also apply all that awareness and connection to one of my favorite standing poses, Trikonasana or Triangle, at the end of our practice.
